Mekelle School of Law-LAC renders a range of general legal aid services to its beneficiaries such as in the form of legal advice, drawing up of memorandums and petitions, conciliation, court representation and other stationary and clerical assistance.

Since the beginning of 2008, Mekelle School of Law-LAC has been providing special legal assistance to persons restrained in the Mekelle Zone Prison Administration. It secured an office in the prison compound and renders all types of legal assistance to prisoners to the extent its capacity allows. The prisoners’ Right Clinic project was launched with the help of a modest financial grant obtained from Action Aid Ethiopia in August 2007.

The marginalized members of the society who cannot protect their rights by hiring lawyers, especially women, children, people living with HIV/AIDS, persons with disabilities and elderly persons are the beneficiaries of the free legal aid service rendered by Mekelle School of Law-LAC. More so, the Center works on issues of pre-trial detention and prisoners’ rights.
